Q. Can you please tell us in brief about your university?

RVS College of Arts and Science, affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, offer career-oriented education leading to graduation, post-graduation, and research degrees in Arts and Science disciplines. Founded on 31st October 1986, it has grown exuberantly to become one of the biggest self-financing colleges. The college was accorded autonomous status in 2004 by UGC and re-accredited in 2023 with an ‘A+’ Grade.

Situated in a serene and salubrious locale at Sulur adjoining the Coimbatore – Palladam Highway, enshrined amidst endearing greenery and eco-friendly ambiance, the RVS College of Arts and Science is the renowned citadel and center for learning. Heralded as the first self-financing College to be set up under Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, it was founded on 31st October 1986. Over the past three decades, it has grown steadily and exuberantly to become the biggest self-financing college with a strength of more than 4700 Students, 210 Teaching faculties, 60 Administrative and 30 Basic Staff. The Institution offers 23 UG programmes and 14 PG programmes apart from 10 M.Phil and 11 Ph.D programmes (both full-time and part-time).

Q. Tell us about the key person? What is his/her role and responsibility in the university?

Dr.K. Senthil Ganesh is an edupreneur, an ardent academician, and an administrative wizard who has devised a tailor–need rather customized education plan for transforming rural students to hi-tech techies and techno managers.

Under his guidance, RVS institutions are the forerunners (from 2008 onwards) in embracing new-age study programs for equipping the learners to secure jobs in todays Digital era.

Now we are pioneering in providing education in the field of Business Analytics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.

Techno-Managers, the need of the hour chimeric employability skill concept was first introduced in this region by him. Over a period of time he able to able to create hundreds of successful techno-managers who are now employed in reputed MNCs around the globe

The uniqueness of this service is that majority of our learners are hailing from rural backgrounds and that too first generation learners.

Based on the output of the placements and accolades received by the institution, it is evident that the academic model chalked out by him is a huge success.

His agile way of building and executing plans is another reason for the aforesaid achievements.

He innovatively set our Institution’s goal as “Education for Digital Era” which matches with our National Education Policy and setting curriculum for New Age studies which is in alignment with National Digital Policy.

His vision is to inculcate entrepreneurial traits in learners, especially digital traits in tune with New Age studies, which is on par with the Make in India Project./p>

He is a distinct leader who makes the institution highly distinct when it comes to e-Governance, New Age Study Curriculum, agile as well as participative management.

He has around 26 years of rich experience in senior management roles and in various business functions including Strategy, Finance, and Marketing. In 2008, he embarked on a transformation project.

His contributions have brought innovative changes in the curriculum and that led the faculty members to teach updated industry-oriented skills.

He also encourages the faculty members to complete various certification programmes in their specialized core areas.

Q. What are the emerging trends in higher education today, and how is your university staying ahead of the curve?

Blended, Flipped, And Peer Learning with The Help of Short Videos and Teaching Materials Prepared by Our Faculty For Conceptual Learning. The Learning Is Extended Beyond the Class Room. Through This Individual Learning Is Mostly Happened Outside the Classroom.

Instead of Sage On Stage Teaching Methods We Have Incorporated Student Centric Learning, Here, The Learning Happens in Experiential Learning Participative Learning, and Problem-Solving Learning. Git-Hub- It Is the Collaborative Tool Used to Post and Submit Assignments and Projects by Our Staff and Students. This Portal Is Also Used for Peer Learning. Git-Hub Project Is Also Shared with The Interviewer During the Placement Interviews. We Share the Study Materials, Content, PPT, and Videos Through LMS. By Using the Kahoot Mentimeter Padlet Application to Conduct the Formative Assessment of Our Students.

Q. What strategies have you adopted to attract and retain top-notch faculty and students?

Admitted Students Are Assessed at Various Periods During Their Stay at Rvs. The Orientation Programme Is Organized for All the Students at the College Level and Department Level Bridge Courses Are Organized to Help The students who find it Difficult to Follow the Course and Cope with The Syllabus. Advanced Learners Are Motivated to Take Up Higher Courses On Mooc Platforms and Earn Extra Credits for Their Credential During Their Period of Study.

Q. What are some of your future endeavors in terms of expanding academic programs or campus facilities?

Business Analytics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence

  • The Green Salubrious campus has architected ventilated classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, Individual desktops/PCs for students in the lab, separate faculty room per department, Seminar Halls/Board rooms, and IT infrastructure with 100 Mbps along with Wi-fi zones.

  • Though we are well connected with the road (NH) student buses are plying on multiple routes and also exclusive transportation facility is available for staff. Battery buggy, an e-vehicle is available 24X7 for movements inside the campus ensuring a nonpolluting transport mechanism. Student supporting amenities Viz., Pragathi Stationery/Reprographic facilities, Cafeteria, Parking Slots, Sickroom, Temples are available.

Q. What is the best advice you can give to students considering enrolling at your university?

The concept of higher education institutions is changing and the perception of students towards HEIs is changing rapidly, but the duty of HEI has not changed providing knowledge, including skills and values, infusing patriotism, and thereby holistic development of a child to a societal responsible citizen.

Q. Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your university’s vision and values?

A dynamic in-house Training Academy for the RVS Group of Institutions catering to the training needs across the group of institutions enabling better job placements. The core purpose of our existence is to create value addition to the organization by ongoing training for all the students, honing their talents, thus giving a support leg to the placement activities. To train the students in English language communication in the aspects of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW)To provide Soft Skills, Personality Development, Behavioural Training, Etiquette, Grooming, Group Discussion, Interview Skills, and Leadership Skills to make them employable. To identify and address the problem areas of the students who fall short during the interviews. To revisit and restructure the training module depending on the changing needs of the industry. To serve the student community from rural areas equipping them with the knowledge and the skill sets to gap the industry demands and help them get good career opportunities
